Description
Gathering is a new addition to our lineup, first arriving at S&S in the later half of the Spring/Summer '26 season, with the initial drop landing at our Berkeley & NYC stores before making it to our website shortly after. It's a more obscure brand, hard to find information on and even harder to find in person, so we're glad to have Gathering on our shelves, and hope you'll have a chance to handle it personally, as we feel their styles are much easier to understand when they can be tried on and touched.
As Gathering themselves tell it, their primary project is textile research, work they're completing through garment production and "buttonology" — put more plainly, they're developing completely custom natural fabrics at small mills and local producers around the world, then finishing their garments with custom and bespoke trims to make pieces that are truly unlike anyone else. Based out of London, they don't limit themselves to sourcing from a singular specific nation or region, instead seeking out artisans across Africa, Asia, and anywhere else that small batch and hand-loomed organic fabrics can be made.
The Farmer Pant is a relaxed trouser with a partially-elasticated waistband, a high rise, and a single pleat on the front of each leg. They're cut with a fairly wide and straight silhouette, one that does technically taper through the leg, but very slightly, reading more as a straight leg visually. Unlike your typical pleated leg, these are cut with inverted pleats, leading to a more aggressively-shaped top block that can have both a relaxed fit and a snug waistband. They've got four easy pockets for storage, too, with two for your hands and two on the seat.
They're made from a soft and textured handloomed cotton/linen canvas fabric with natural neps throughout, and an organic cotton interior lining for extra softness. It's a comfortably medium-weight fabric, with good drape and a surprisingly soft hand, that requires no break-in period before it's pleasant to wear, feeling immediately comfortable and only getting better with time. The off-white fabric is highly prone to taking in dirt, stains, and color, and will patina beautifully over time.
Additional details include a drawstring inside the waistband for further size adjustments, and precise tonal stitching throughout. The fly closes up with a zipper to keep things from getting too bulky, and the waist features natural shell buttons — buttonologist approved.
