Description

Established in the mid-1930s, Yoshida & Co are among the best-known bag making companies in the world. Their PORTER line, named for the luggage-carrying profession of porters, is among their most popular, gaining international renown and recognition during the 1980s, and maintaining a cult status since then. Their bags are remarkable, all original designs, produced with custom textiles and hardware that will only get better with age.

The "Crag" Series is a new set of casual bags from Porter. The signature detail is the "product-dyed" finish on these, which is the bag equivalent of a garment-dye, where the finished item is dyed after being sewn together. The entire Crag series undergoes a two-bath dyeing process, in which two different mixtures are applied in succession to achieve the finished color. This treatment shrinks the fabric slightly, and the end result is a beautiful and subtly varied finish that isn't quite the same on any two bags.

It's made from a lightweight and high-density nylon/cotton blend. It's the best of both worlds, with the durability of nylon yarns, but the softness and handsome aging of cotton, which allows these bags to fade over time, developing a unique patina. Produced and dyed in Kurashiki, in the Okayama Prefecture, this specialty textile and finishing process is safe for humans and environmentally-friendly.

The Crag Tote is a classic Porter-style tote bag, with an assortment of extra pockets around the outside, some open, some zipped, and one with a flap & snap. The top sits open but can also be snapped closed in the middle, with even more pockets on the inside, and two mid length straps for carrying. The bottom is reinforced, too, for extra durability on the part of the bag that does most of the holding.
