Description
The 1940s Army Field Jacket is a super old school cropped jacket with a unique collar closure and a silhouette reminiscent of Type-II denim jackets. The overlapped placket can be worn up for a more classic collar, or if the top button is left undone, can be let down into a dress collar, with short and wide lapels. It's got two external pockets on the chest for storage, with one more on the inside as well, making for a very functional everyday jacket. While it's cropped in length, the torso and sleeves are still fairly relaxed and roomy, preventing things from feeling too small or restrictive.
It's made from a beautiful lightweight selvedge chambray, clocking in at an airy 5.5oz and woven from 100% cotton yarns, produced slowly on a vintage power loom in Japan using local and American cotton. It's got a really pronounced texture for a chambray fabric, with rope-dyed indigo yarns that retain a white core, meaning that this fabric will develop beautiful and high contrast fades from wear and washing. The 5.5oz weight makes it perfect for hot weather, keeping the sun off your body without trapping any heat, and drying quickly when moist, so that you can stay comfortable during the summer months.
The other details worth mentioning include the side tab adjusters above the hem, which can bring the silhouette in using the same metal donut buttons as the placket and cuffs, the period-accurate yellow & orange threads with bartack reinforcements, and the pocket watch buttonhole + side entry pocket (though Elliot says these pockets are great for Airpods in the modern day).
